An exciting medical week

It's been an exciting week around the Williams house. On Monday night Ev and Alorah headed out for a 2 hour softball practice (where she got some one on one with her coach and improved by leaps and bounds). In the middle of practice I had to call and ask him to come home because Alaina swallowed a round magnetic ball. She came into the office shrieking that in the midst of eating her pizza Micah put the ball in her mouth and she swallowed. So off the call the doctor on call, but I'm not too concerned at that point. They paged the doctor on call (it was 6pm) and where it normally takes a half hour or so to call me ~ the doctor called me within one minute and told me to get to the ER. I get a bit panicked at that point . . . I don't do well with hospitals and all that.

I called my friend Mindi who thankfully lives in close proximity to both me and the hospital. She took the kids for an hour or so until my mom got off work and I made my way quickly to the hospital. 4 hours later we left the hospital with my wallet quite a bit lighter and a magnet that the x-ray showed in Lainie's stomach. They told us to wait 5 days until it passes (I guess it was good that she chose something round to swallow, otherwise it could have been surgical) and I'm glad to say that it worked it's way out on Thursday.

Tuesday we had a t-ball game and softball pictures and thankfully no ER visits.

Wednesday we had church until about 8pm. One of the things that kids love to do is collect the airsoft b.b.s on the ground that the older kids shoot at each other (think small, round, plastic balls) As we were leaving the parking lot around 8:30 pm Micah says "can someone get this b.b" and then two seconds later "oh wait, it's gone" as we noticed he's digging in his ear. Our response was "oh, crap" it's in his ear. Which after a visit to Aunt Nicole's proved to indeed be true. I tried to get it out with tweezers to no avail. SO I raced to urgent care which is a lot cheaper and faster than the Emergency Room. I got there 10 minutes before they closed, but they warned me they may not be able to get it out, which would mean we were off to the ER.

They tried to vacuum it out, then tried to scoop it out but neither worked. They were about to send us to the ER when the other doctor thankfully wandered in and had an idea. He took a Q-tip and put some dermabond on it, placed it in Micah's ear, it stuck to the ball ~ and out came the BB! THANK THE LORD!!!!!!!!!! We were extremely grateful to Dr. Cook ~ even though she looked at me a bit strange when I asked to take her picture with the point and shoot camera I carry around in my purse :)

The funniest part was that as we were leaving they gave me a $5 off coupon for our next visit. We've made quite a few appearances there, and I'm sure with with 4 kids we'll make good use of that coupon.

I am totally in awe of how you juggle it all so well! I feel over my head all the time with two kids!

Okay, Tez, no more wee round things allowed for any Williams! :) One of my cousins stuck a little piece of neon pink crayon up one of her nostrils when she was three. No one knew about it until it started to stink (it was totally rank), and then it started to come down a little. So each time she would breathe out, you could see neon pink. HAHAHAHAHA! So off to the doctor she went.

The things kids do to make sure parents are stimulating the economy!

TFS - this was a great story with a happy ending where no one had to cut off a body part. :)

Good thing you carry that point and shoot camera, I did the same thing when your dad had to be helicoptered to the hospital, a few good picts! for the scrapbook. Micah does not look too happy in this picture...
